Dear Kami
I would like to write you some feedback about our trip last July 2024.
You know, the idea of such a trip to the Karnali Valley, from there to Kailash and via Tibet back to Nepal had been on Christoph and my mind for a long time.
It was a stroke of luck that I was able to meet Dany Gehrig last September and that he then put us in touch with you.
From the very beginning I felt well supported, taken seriously and we could rely on you.
I also found the price for the entire trip to be fair and reasonable right from the start.
After meeting you in Zurich, Christoph told me that he had a very good feeling about your tour guide.
Dany also soon told me that you were the “best” man for our project.
It was nice when I finally got to meet you in Kathmandu. I too felt your trust and competence right from the start.
Everything was well organized from the beginning. Pick up at the airport, drive to the hotel (good hotel in Kathmandu), first encounter with the culture for Nicole and Christoph, etc.
The “excursions” in Kathmandu were also moderate and well accompanied by the guide (unfortunately I forgot his name).
The flight to Nepalgunj was very nice because we could see some eight-thousanders from the plane.
In retrospect, the fact that the weather made a quick onward flight to Simikot impossible was unfavorable for acclimatization.
The good hotel in Nepalgunj made the wait more bearable. For me it was a reunion with Simikot and the Karnali Valley.
The great kitchen team, the lovely people and the perfect organisation (including good weather) made the trip on the Nepalese side a great experience.
It was also great that you, Kami, were out on the bike with us. I really appreciated that.
Crossing the border into Tibet was, as expected, a test of patience. The onward journey by bike to Darchen was a wonderful tour.
Unfortunately, Nicole and Christoph had to struggle a bit with their health afterwards.
The decision we made at Kailash (turning back) was logical to me. We were a small group, so you either go together or you don't.
So it was great that we (Nicole, Kami, “TikTok” and I) were able to walk up to the Kailash glacier together.
Then came the journey back to Nepal over the Tibetan plateau. Everything else went well, the hotels were perhaps well chosen, with the exception of "Saga".
The guides in Tibet also did their job well. "TikTok" especially. They had to get used to us bikers for a day or two (eating habits, enough water), after that everything went tip-top.
The beautiful hotel in Lhaze (Vienna) was nice for a change. But it doesn't always have to be that way.
The vehicles we had with us were all well maintained and comfortable to travel longer distances in.
Personally, I would have liked to have ridden the bike a few more kilometers, but the group always had priority for me and that's a good thing.
I always felt supported by you, Kami. If this trip were to be offered again in any form, I would definitely explicitly emphasize the physical requirements.
It also makes sense to familiarize yourself with Tibetan culture before such a trip. The ever-present Chinese oppression of Tibetans (high Chinese presence in Tibet, camera surveillance everywhere, etc.), the piety of Tibetan pilgrims, which from a Western perspective is sometimes overwhelming, also place demands on travelers that should not be underestimated.
In this respect too, you have served Kami well and have always been an important support.
Tibet and especially the Kailash region touched me deeply once again. For me personally, it was a great, spiritual journey.
I also really enjoyed the sporty side of it and the pass ride with Kami will remain unforgettable!
The end of the trip with the visit to your home dear Kami (a particularly great honor for us/me), getting to know your wife, the visit to the Thamel district, the meal together in this great restaurant shortly before departure, but also the "massage" that Nicole was able to enjoy, all unforgettable moments of a special trip.
I hope that one day we can return to Nepal and maybe do some great trekking with you.
But first we have to say THANK YOU! for a well-planned trip and for everything you did for us, Kami. It's also important that we're all healthy and able to go about our daily lives again.
I hope these lines are enough feedback for you.
Warm wishes
Roland
